Below we have included some further information about all of our enthusiastic staff.

Kevin MurnaneWoodville Veterinary

Hi, I’m Dr Kevin Murnane,  Originally from Ireland, I grew up on a rural dairy farm in the south west of Ireland. From a young age I have loved animals of all shapes and sizes. In 2000 I fulfilled a life long ambition by travelling to Australia and backpacked around the country and fell in love with the place and its people.  When the opportunity presented to move here permanently in 2010 my wife and I jumped at the chance.  Presently I live by the coast at Brighton and you will find me most mornings walking my dog (Boycey a Labrador) along the beach.

What you can expect from me?
I am passionate about providing pet lovers and their pets with fantastic friendly veterinary care, truly awesome service and astounding value.  I will always put your pet’s health and welfare first and endeavour to provide them with a safe environment when under my care.

Cheltenham VeterinaryLaurie graduated from the University of Queensland with honours and worked in rural practice in Birdwood before he opened the practice in 1983. He renovated the building and converted it from a residence into a veterinary practice. He has worked in it since then in either full time or part time capacity (the last 13 years full time). He worked for many years as well in TAFE training students in veterinary nursing and the horse industries. In his spare time, Laurie was involved in the organization of continuing education activities for 17 years for both veterinarians and animal industry personnel in South Australia as well as in Qld, NSW, Vic and WA. Special interests in the practice include soft tissue surgery and reconstructive surgery. Leisure interests include farm activities at home, squash, theatre and classical music. Lottie used to come to work every day with him.

NikFerryden Park Veterinary

Nik is the longest serving veterinary nurse in the practice. She is the practice ‘cat whisperer’ and currently has 3 cats. She has hand reared many young kittens from a few days old and has really enjoyed it. Nik has done two years of human nursing but prefers veterinary nursing. Leisure interests include a passion for music – she is a jazz singer and enjoys jazz, blues and most activities in the arts and theatre. She is a bit of an earth mother and constantly strives for ecologically sustainable living.

Rachael joined us as a fulltime nurse in 2012. Rachael completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at Tafe SA in 2013. She has been working as a veterinary nurse since early 2010. At home she has 2 furry daughters- Bella (cat) and Sidda-Lee (rabbit) and a crazy fur son- Bear (cat). Her interests include art, photography and spending time with family and friends. Prior to joining the veterinary industry Rachael worked as a sales assistant at a pet shop for 2 years and also volunteered with the Animal Welfare League as a "cat cuddler" and "canine calmer".

Kylie is our newest staff member joining us fulltime in 2013. She started her career in March 2010 and has recently completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at Tafe SA. Before nursing she completed Certificate II in Animal Studies. At home she has 2 dogs (Bonnie and Roxy) and 4 cats (Macie, Soxy, Ollie and Missy). Kylie loves to dine out with good food and good company and enjoys outdoor activities like surfing. Her future plans include completing her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and travel.

I have taken over the practice since my arrival in 2007.
The staff are good but constantly need continuing education to accommodate my needs.

I find the door staff a little slow but with considerable retraining they are managing to open and close it in a manner more to my liking. The chefs definitely need retraining as they have resorted to using pre-prepared foods and I would far prefer freshly caught fish. My work and principal interest is in keeping the place running smoothly which I can observe from the sunniest spot possible or from the groove within the outlet of the reception room printer. I don’t have offspring, a matter which unfortunately was beyond my control.

Albert Park Veterinary

I am one of the longest serving members of the practice. Originally I came to the practice for treatment via the RSPCA. I had a broken front leg which was not attended to and was healing at right angles. The owners decided to surrender me to the RSPCA. Laurie was able to fix my leg (by rebreaking it and applying external fixation). I can walk pretty well now.

During my fulltime days my main role was doing an inspection of facilities every couple of hours and welcoming new clients to the practice. I am currently in retirement and spend most days at home sunning myself and keeping a watchful eye on the other members of my fur family but I do pop into the clinic for visits from time to time which I thoroughly enjoy.
