Pandora's feline diabetes cure, 30.03.2012

"With a course of gradually reducing insulin injections, some cats which have been recently diagnosed with diabetes can be cured; or more accurately, a cat can cure itself. We were lucky that our feline companion, Pandora, turned out to be one of them. The method required some daily effort on our part because it was carried out at home, but there were no decisions to make, so no stress for us, because Dr Laurie directed us every step of the way throughout the five weeks it took for Pandora to no longer need insulin injections.

We thank Dr Laurie for putting so much time into Pandora's case. Time spent explaining the method and why it can work, and to train us how to inject properly, test urine, measure water drank and keep records; time spent closely monitoring progress and giving us instructions throughout the five weeks.

The daily tasks take very little time to carry out, a small effort to give a feline friend a chance to be healthy again, free of diabetes."

Janet and Barry Clark

"P.S. Pandora has not had an injection for two weeks and her daily urine test has been negative every day. She now will be tested just once a week for six weeks. "

Update on Pandora as of the 14.06.12, she is still giving a negative result and has not needed any insulin injections.

“I have been coming to the practice for 22 years with several dogs. It has definitely been worth the trip from Gawler. The team really cares for their patients. I recommend the practice to all of my friends. ‘Betty’ has been a new dog since major life saving surgery in February”

"Dr Laurie (‘the most passionate man I have met about his career’- Andrew) and his staff Linda and Emma care not only about the animals they help, but also for the families who choose to have pets. The support, service and advice offered by Dr. Laurie and staff are holistic in nature and exemplary. The fees and charges are standard but do not truly reflect the excellent service Dr. Laurie and his staff offer. We would recommend pet owners in metropolitan Adelaide and further to utilize this service for quality veterinary care."

  • ‘my puppy and I really enjoyed it and we both had fun’
  • ‘we will miss the classes very much’
  • ‘Baxter has had lots of fun and made good friends’

‘Rachel, my dearly beloved Bedlington Terrier, was a client of Port Road West Croydon Veterinary Clinic for more than 15 years. Dr. Laurie Doube dealt competently with her many and varied health ailments over that time and I was always confident that he would recommend and carry out the most appropriate treatment. Laurie and his vet nurses were always efficient, friendly and supportive. Rachel couldn’t have had a more caring team looking after her wellbeing.’ Judith Whitehorn ‘P.S. We’re back! I now have a new companion, a delightful Poodle/Maltese Terrier puppy, and it is reassuring to know that Posy will receive the same first-class service as was extended to Rachel. We look forward to continuing our association with this clinic.’

‘Thank you for your kindness and expert care throughout my traumatic surgeries last year! You always made me feel so welcome, let me have sleepovers, spent lots of time consulting with colleagues and researching treatments. You documented my progress with my own photo album and took the time to check on my progress with many after-hours calls to my owner.   Thanks to you all, I’m still happy, well and bringing lots of joy to those who live with me’

Ralph the Retriever (10years old)

‘We have continued to be grateful and delighted by the high level of care our pets have received and the information and advice we have been offered over many years from Laurie and the staff at Port Road Vet. As owners of large (and occasionally ill-mannered) dogs it is a great relief to be able to take our pets to a clinic where they are always welcomed and where our concerns are shared and treated empathetically. Whether it’s a regular check-up, beestings, unusual swallowed objects or a tumour requiring multiple surgeries and extensive followup treatment, the support we receive is always first class. Thanks for sharing both the triumphs and the challenges of pet ownership with us!’

‘Laurie and the wonderful staff at Port Road West Croydon Veterinary clinic cared for our dog Minnie (and us) for nearly eighteen years. Warm and friendly service, honesty and dedication to providing individually-tailored treatment for our much-loved pet ensured she had a long, happy and healthy life. We can highly recommend them to anyone seeking veterinary care with a personal touch’

When looking for a vet for my new dog, 2 year old Molly, I rang a few places asking about prices and to get a feel for the various practices in my area. From the friendly voice on the telephone, who enthusiastically listened to me talk about my new addition, to the laminated medical history card with photo and later welcome letter, I was, and am, so happy that i found this practice. I always have lots of questions but never feel rushed or silly, also this is not a practice that will recommend unnecessary procedures just to get more money out of you.
